Improving Turkey Breast Meat Quality Should Also Focus on Dam Lines
November 25, 2010 - When it comes to meat quality, not all turkey breasts are created equal.  Recent work by poultry scientists at The Ohio State University has shown that a number of factors impact turkey breast meat quality and that genetic selection plays an important role in determining those factors, according to the Poultry Science Association (PSA).


Study: USDA rule could cost U.S. Broiler Industry $1 Billion
November 25, 2010 - The livestock marketing rule proposed by USDA’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) will cost the U.S. broiler chicken industry more than $1 billion over five years in reduced efficiency, higher costs for feed and housing and increased administrative expenses, according to a study released by the National Chicken Council.

November 25, 2010 - Donnie Smith, president and CEO of Tyson Foods, will be the keynote speaker at the Animal Agriculture Sustainability Summit during the 2011 International Poultry Expo and International Feed Expo.   Sponsored by U.S. Poultry & Egg Association and the American Feed Industry Association, the world’s largest poultry and feed event will be held January 26-28 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.


Food Safety: Ministerial Advisory Board Formed
November 25, 2010 - Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz recently announced the appointments of seven highly qualified advisors to the Ministerial Advisory Board (MAB) of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in an effort to strengthen Canada's food safety system.


Low-path H5N2 Confirmed in Manitoba
November 25, 2010, Winnipeg - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed that the virus detected in a commercial poultry operation in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood, Manitoba is low pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza.

National Farmed Animal Health and Welfare Council Formed
November 25, 2010- Farmed animal industry groups, provincial governments and the Government of Canada are working together to implement the National Farmed Animal Health and Welfare Strategy (NFAHWS) through the formation of the National Farmed Animal Health and Welfare (NFAHW) Council.
