Dec. 9, 2010 – Tom Scott is happy to be home. After 26 years of studying, teaching and working abroad, the native of Landis – who holds a PhD in science – returned to Saskatchewan earlier this year to take a prestigious job at the University of Saskatchewan.

Chore Time Founder Dies
Dec. 7, 2010 – CTB Inc.  has announced that its founder, Howard S. Brembeck, has died. He was 100 years old. Brembeck founded CTB International Corp., a farm equipment company that was sold to Berkshire Hathaway in 2002.


Gene Mapping Helps Egg Quality Problems
Dec. 7, 2010 – Quantitative trait loci affecting egg quality – albumen thickness, blood and meat spots, fishy taint and shell durability – were identified through the mapping of the chicken genome. The results of a recent doctoral study enhance the efficiency of chicken breeding.


EU 'Country of Origin' Labeling Closer
Dec. 7, 2010 – Clear consumer country of origin labeling for pork, chicken and lamb could soon become law after EU Ministers agreed overwhelmingly in favour today.


Pilot Project Applications Ready
Dec. 7, 2010 – Fulfilling a promise made at the Agriculture ministers' meeting in July, the Government of Canada will invest up to $3 million for a series of pilot projects that will investigate and help better position provincial meat processors to move their safe, high quality product across the country while keeping with Canada's high federal food safety standards.


Canadian Poultry and Egg Statistics
Dec. 2, 2010 – Statistics Canada reports that the value of all poultry products totaled $3.2 billion in 2009, a 0.7 per cent decrease from 2008. Sales of poultry meat in 2009 totaled $2.4 billion and egg sales decreased 2.3 per cent from 2008 to stand at $843.4 million.

Dec. 1, 2010 – Chicken Farmers of Canada has responded to the high expectations of Canadian consumers by creating a new web site, featuring a revamped, searchable recipe data base, shareable content, social media options and other special features.


U.S. Senate Passes Food Safety Law
Dec. 1, 2010 – New food safety legislation approved by the U.S. Senate would give the Food and Drug Administration new powers to recall tainted foods, increase inspections, demand accountability from food companies and oversee farming.
