Canadian Investors Buy Vermont's Largest Egg Farm
August 2 - Burnbrae Farms, based in Lyn, Ontario, is one of three family-owned Canadian poultry businesses that formed a joint venture to buy Vermont Egg Farm Inc. in May. The other two entities are Ferme Hubert Inc. of Nicolet, Quebec, and Ferme A.B. Morin & Son, of St. Bernard, Quebec.

While I am loath to admit it, I am befuddled, bemused and confused.
This is not something someone who occupies space in a magazine should admit. But it is when I decided to try and analyze Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) farm income forecast for 2009 and 2010 that I fell down a rabbit hole and am still trying to emerge.

Cause for Concern?
Every time a recent foodborne illness outbreak around the world has been analyzed, lapses in using standard sanitary practices have been among the culprits. Yet even though practices have been tightened up, there’s still been little progress made toward reducing overall frequencies of foodborne illness caused by major bacterial pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella.
