Blast from the Past
The use of cages for poultry has been much in the news in recent years. Seventy-three years ago cages were also making news, but in a very different way.

From the editor: January 2010
As we welcome the new year, I would like you to think about an issue that has been bothering me. I am not alone on this one – many of my farm colleagues are equally disturbed and disappointed.

From the Editor: February 2010
My brother-in-law Tim is a fabulous cook. He finds it relaxing and rewarding to prepare a meal for his family.

CPRC Update: December 2009
“The environment” is one of Canada’s poultry research priority areas. Building a Better Tomorrow
In Tanzania, some of the world’s most breathtaking sights intersect. Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, looms over Tanzania’s plains with its snowy caps glistening under a veil of cloud. Along the stretching Serengeti, zebras, gazelles and wildebeests kick up plumes of dust in the world’s largest migration. In the Zanzibar Archipelago, the labyrinth-like streets are lined with colourful fruit stands and the air is heavy with the scent of cloves and nutmeg.

Time to Talk Turkey
Since the dawn of the turkey, humans have been drawn to this particular bird to share with family and friends during holidays and special occasions such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Served alongside mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie and – of course – stuffing, you create a meal fit for a king. And, although turkeys do appreciate being labelled and listed as a “special” feast, it is time for people to begin broadening their menu selections to include turkey in their diet.

From Oil to Organic
Sometimes it takes an outsider to recognize an opportunity. In 1992, oilfield surveyor Ron Hamilton, a young man with no background in agriculture, moved his family from Leduc to a virtually abandoned 240-acre farm near Armena, Alta.

CPRC Update: November 2009
Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) is the most common cause of bacterial gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and the intestines) in humans in North America.
