November 12, 2009- The Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI) , with sponsorship from Farm Credit Canada (FCC), announced an awards program that will provide $45,000 over three years. The objective is to generate creative ideas from graduate students on the policies needed to improve the competitiveness and profitability of the Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector.
"We're reaching out to graduate students to spur fresh thinking on the public policy options and models needed to help Canada thrive in the emerging agri-food world", notes David McInnes, President and CEO of CAPI.
The awards program, Advancing a National Dialogue, is open to graduate students enrolled in faculties of agriculture and veterinary medicine within Canadian universities and colleges. Students will choose to address a pertinent question under one of three award categories: food and wellness, sustainability and viability. A short program description, the application form, and guidelines are now available.
The program will award a total of $15,000 each year. Three awards of $5,000 will be granted for the best submission papers in each category. CAPI will announce the winners of the awards in May, 2010. The program is expected to run for three years, with a total of $45,000 in awards.
