Jun. 17, 2013, Ottawa, ON – Colonel Chris Hadfield and his family have developed the sandwich recipe for this year’s Great Canadian Chicken BBQ at Majors’ Hill Park on Canada Day!

Hadfield, fresh from his mission as Commander of the International Space Station, and his family, have developed the “Back to Earth” chicken sandwich for Chicken Farmers of Canada(CFC), as the organization celebrates its 21st year as National Sponsor of Canada Day in the Capital.

Almost 10,000 fresh Canadian chicken breasts will be seared to perfection at the Great Canadian Chicken BBQ in Major’s Hill Park. It’s just one of the activities that visitors can participate in as they celebrate Canada Day in the Capital.

The Hadfields’ “Back to Earth” chicken sandwich features a 5 oz. grilled chicken breast, marinated in lemon, garlic and pepper, orange juice, brown sugar, thyme and more!

“It gives us great pride to serve the Hadfield family recipe as part of our Canada Day festivities,” said Dave Janzen, Chair of CFC. “Commander Hadfield’s family background is in farming, and his recent journey into space has inspired Canadians from coast to coast – frankly, I can think of no better way to celebrate!”

Supporting Food Banks

As in the past, 50 cents from the sale of each chicken dish is donated to the Ottawa Food Bank. CFC would also like to thank Maple Leaf Prime, for providing the chicken for the event and for helping us do our part in the fight against hunger.

Celebrate with CFC!

The Chicken Corner will be full of balloons, music, cooking demos and other entertainment. Customers can come buy their special sandwiches on July 1st from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., (or while supplies last).
