FBCC alerts poultry farmers to tighten biosecurity protocols due to ILT outbreak.

The Feather Board Command Centre (FBCC) has issued a biosecurity advisory for a 10 km area in the City of Kingston, Ont., following the detection of Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) in a small poultry flock. This advisory is expected to remain in effect until late July 2024.

ILT is a serious respiratory virus affecting chickens and other avian species. Symptoms include increased mortality, noisy breathing, head-shaking, decreased egg production, and conjunctivitis. Poultry farmers are urged to strengthen biosecurity measures, limit farm visitors, monitor the movement of birds, and ensure all personnel practice proper disinfection.

Small flock growers can find resources at SmallFlockOntario.ca. Further updates will be available at www.fbcc.ca.
