Features Disease watch HealthCommercial broiler chicken farmer reports high mortality situation.

An ILT Disease Biosecurity Advisory Area has been established for a 10 km area east of Simcoe in Norfolk County.
DATE: June 7
LOCATIONS: Norfolk County, Ont.
DETAILS: A commercial broiler chicken farmer notified the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) of a high mortality disease situation. The attending veterinarian submitted samples that have been confirmed by OMAFRA as positive for Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT). FBCC has provided ILT response protocols to the veterinarian to assist with farm bio-containment efforts as well as flock slaughter, cleaning and disinfection, barn heating, disposal, vaccination, and down-time prior to re-stocking. This is the second case of ILT in an Ontario broiler chicken flock in several years, with the last one being over a year ago. Ontario also continues to experience ILT occasionally in commercial layer flocks as well as numerous small flocks.
