UEP study shows proposed bill will mean minimal cost for consumer
Changes to egg production practices that are proposed in federal U.S. legislation (S. 3239 and H.R. 3798) may only increase consumer prices by less than two cents per dozen, a new economic study commissioned by the UEP shows.

Safe Food for Canadians Act
Last week the Government of Canada announced the implementation of the Safe Food for Canadians Act, which consolidates several food protection Acts to provide a more consistent inspection regime across all food commodities, enforce tougher penalties, allow for better control over imports and exports, and strengthen traceability.

WestVet makes some changes
The Western Meeting of Poultry Clinicians and Pathologists Meeting (WestVet), in response to changes within the poultry industry, has altered both the date and location of its meeting. Normally held in Lake Louise, the meeting has been moved to Abbotsford, B.C., and will take place on Oct. 2-3, 2012, at the Ramanda Inn and Conference Centre.

Floradale Feed Mill donates to Food and Farm Care Foundation
Floradale Feed Mill Limited has announced a pledge of $50,000 to the Farm and Food Care Foundation, a new charity with a mandate to enhance public trust in food and farming. Each year over the five-year agreement, the Foundation and Floradale Feed Mill will meet to determine funding priorities. In 2012, the funds will be put towards extending the distribution of the award-winning publication, The Real Dirt on Farming into mainstream media targeting business people and decision makers.
