Top 4 Under 40 Series: Dr. Teryn Girard

Brett Ruffell

Top 4 Under 40

Dr. Teryn Girard is a poultry vet from Red Deer, Alta. She was the first poultry vet to join Prairie Livestock Veterinarians, where she’s developed a growing commercial clientele. She’s also a vet with Cargill Animal Nutrition.

In her role, she’s been an asset in helping to deal with both the pandemic and the avian influenza outbreak. She’s also developed important educational tools for producers, including small flock owners. And she volunteers her time to support youth who are interested in poultry.

In the third instalment of Canadian Poultry’s 2022 Top 4 Under 40 podcast series, editor Brett Ruffell talks to Girard about building a poultry vet business in the midst of a pandemic, her role in handling the avian influenza outbreak and the importance of educating small flock owners.

Canadian Poultry launched the Top 4 Under 40 program in 2021 to recognize young poultry leaders. Four finalists, including three farmers and one industry professional, are chosen based on their leadership, innovation and advocacy. We then recognize them in this Top 4 Under 40 podcast series.
