Barn fire kills 25,000 chickens

July 8, 2009, Manitoba – A fire at a barn near Steinbach, Man., on Tuesday killed an estimated 25,000 chickens and caused $900,000 in damage.

July 8, 2009, Manitoba – The blaze broke out around 1:30 a.m. in the rural municipality of
Hanover, near Highways 205 and 52, about 50 kilometres southeast of
Winnipeg. The fire consumed one of two attached barns, burning it to
the ground, according to RCMP.

Due to the quick response of the local fire departments from the
communities of Grunthal, Hanover and Kleefeld, the second barn was
