10 Members of Vaccination Crew Killed in Ontario Crash

February 7, 2012 – 10 members of a vaccination crew were killed in a horrific crash in Hampstead, Ont. last night after leaving a nearby poultry farm.

horrific crash in Hampstead, Ont. last night after leaving a nearby
poultry farm.

The ten workers were migrants from Peru, and were employees of Brian's Poultry. They had spent the day vaccinating more 16,000 chickens at Hampstead Poultry, according to the owner Albert Burgers. 

The workers were part of a group of 13 workers who had left the farm in a van, travelling west on line 47.  Police are reporting that it appears as though the driver of the van did not stop at the intersection with Country Rd. 107, and collided at high speed with a flat-bed truck, owned by Speedy Transport.  The collision caused both vehicles to travel more than 75 metres and onto the property of nearby farmhouse.  The driver of the truck was also killed at the scene.

Three crew members survived the crash.  One was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other two were transported to Stratford's hospital with serious injuries.
