November 1, 2011 – The Farm Care
Foundation announced a new commitment of $100,000 from Wallenstein Feed
and Supply Ltd. to further its public outreach efforts on food and
farming.
The announcement was made by Foundation chairman Bruce Christie at the Ontario Harvest Gala in Guelph. The gala also marked the first anniversary of the Foundation, a new charity with a mandate to enhance public trust in food and farming.
“We’re pleased to announce the launch of a fundraising campaign for the Farm Care Foundation, with a goal of generating one million dollars per year for the next five years,” said Christie. “We think an investment in public trust and confidence in food and farming benefits farmers and all the stakeholders in the agri-food business.”
In making the announcement, Christie noted that Wallenstein Feed and Supply Ltd. has been a long time supporter of the Ontario Farm Animal Council with past sponsorship totalling $90,000 for projects like the FarmzOnWheelz exhibit, the Real Dirt on Farming booklet and other initiatives. These projects will continue with a broader reach under the new Farm & Food Care banner, with support from the Foundation.
Rick Martin, President of Wallenstein Feed and Supply Ltd, said: “We are very supportive of the Farm Care Foundation. It plays a key role in presenting the public with a true and positive story about agriculture. We all have to do our part in developing and maintaining a healthy profile for our industry.”
Martin, who also serves as a trustee on the Foundation, added, “Farm Care has lots of great ideas but needs the funding to make them happen in a big enough scale to be heard. We feel strongly that the entire agriculture and food industry should support these efforts.”
