Chicken farmers’ food banks program responds to call for donations.

Ontario chicken farmers made a donation of 600 kilograms of chicken, which will contribute to over 5,000 meals for families and individuals in need, through The Mississauga Food Bank.

In response to a public request for donations due to the soaring number of families needing to utilize The Mississauga Food Bank, chicken farmers worked swiftly to ensure The Mississauga Food Bank had chicken in their possession to distribute to families and individuals in need.

The donation of chicken was made by the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO), through the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program, which enables chicken farmers to donate their chicken to food banks across Ontario.

The CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program contributes over one million meals a year to local food banks. The CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program works in partnership with Feed Ontario.

“Thanks to the continued support of the Ontario chicken farming community, chicken farmers were able to act swiftly to help the Mississauga community,” says Andrea Veldhuizen, CFO board director for CFO Cares & District 4.

“Proteins, like chicken, are among some of the most-needed items at food banks and we want to ensure that, Ontario-grown chicken is readily available to Ontarians and food banks.”

The food bank was grateful for the donation.

“The Mississauga Food Bank would like to thank Ontario chicken farmers for providing 600 kilograms of chicken to our community,” Meghan Nicholls, CEO, The Mississauga Food Bank.

“We are appreciative of chicken farmers for quickly jumping to action in response to the increased demand that The Mississauga Food Bank is facing from neighbours in need across the city. Thank you to the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program.”
