Canada reports first HPAI case of 2024

Disease detected in Quebec commercial flock.

For the first time in 2024, Canada has reported a case of avian influenza in a commercial poultry flock.

CFIA reported the disease was detected in a commercial poultry flock in Papineau, a regional county municipality in the Outaouais region of Quebec, on January 3.

The size and type of poultry was not reported.

It was the province’s first detection of the disease in a commercial flock since December 3, 2023.

This latest detection brings Quebec’s total number of infected premises since the outbreaks began in late-2021 to 52, with over 1.1 million birds being impacted.

Nationally, there have been 414 infected premises with nearly 11 million birds being impacted.
