industry are expected to keep blossoming, while others will likely
be squeezed by higher costs.
Oct. 3, 2008 – An agriculture professor says some aspects of Canada's farming
industry are expected to keep blossoming, while others will likely
be squeezed by higher costs.
Maury Bredahl, of the University of Guelph, says U-S demand for
ethanol, a fuel derived from corn, has been a boon for not only corn
farmers, but also for soybean and wheat producers who have also seen
their commodity prices ramp up.
However, he says farmers who need to buy those crops to feed
their cattle, pigs or chickens have seen their costs soar.
As a result he says there will be feedlots in Ontario that will
be empty this winter because there is no money in the cattle
industry.
