As part of the pre-slaughter testing and surveillance program for H5/H7 Avian Influenza, H7N3 low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) was confirmed on Sept. 12 in a commercial meat-type turkey flock in Stanislaus County, California.

The affected flock of 26,258 birds was depopulated and the carcasses have been rendered.

Surveillance conducted within 10km of the initial farm has now detected H7N3 Low Path AI in a second commercial meat-turkey farm of 35,000 birds. Depopulation, surveillance and movement controls in place.
