Ongoing B.C. flood crisis creates concern for farmers’ mental health

Some farmers lost entire flocks.

Dave Martens hesitated a moment when asked how many birds he has on his chicken farm.

“Well, I guess I don’t have any birds,” he said Wednesday.

Seven days ago, before flood waters swept over his property and swamped his house and barns, the farmer might have said 40,000 chickens. But for more than a week, his home has been under water, including the first floor of his barn.
