WOAH: Canada’s latest HPAI case involved commercial ducks

Of the three Canadian commercial poultry operations to be hit by avian influenza in 2024, two have been in Quebec.

In a commercial poultry farm in Canada, a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was previously reported and has now been confirmed. The incident occurred in a commercial duck operation located in Quebec.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) had initially announced the confirmation of HPAI on February 9 in Drummond County, Quebec. However, details about the specific flock type and the number of affected birds were not disclosed by the CFIA at that time.
